Every curly babe should know their porosity type. It makes caring for your curls so much easier, because you'll know which products are going to properly moisturise and strengthen your hair and exactly how to use them.

Hair porosity is all about how well your hair absorbs and retains water. It also affects how well your hair is able to receive products.

Depending on how open your cuticles are, you can have high, medium or low porosity hair.

Hair density refers to the number of strands of hair on your head and how closely packed together those strands are.

The more strands of hair you have per square inch, the higher your density (either high, medium or low).

While density refers to the thickness of a collection of strands as a group, diameter is the width or thickness of the individual strands of hair.

You can have fine, medium or coarse hair depending on your hair texture.

Once you're clued up on the porosity, density and diameter of your hair, then you can look at your curl pattern.

Your pattern is the shape your curls fall in, and will depend on how loose or tight your curls are coiled.
